On the evening of September 14, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., San Diego police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of Newton Avenue in the Barrio Logan neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds: 28-year-old Osnaider Silveira, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 23-year-old Junior Alastre, who was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Both victims were recent immigrants from Venezuela.
